Reverend, Roy J. Holbrook was born September 25, 1972 to the late Roy Dorsey, Jr. of Henry County Georgia, and Sandra M. Dorsey of Richmond, Virginia. He is the second youngest of eight siblings. A native Washingtonian, Reverend Holbrook is a former student-athlete and graduate of the District of Columbia Public Schools where he is an alumnus of Ballou Senior High School located in SE Washington, D.C. Reverend Holbrook furthered his education through a full athletic scholarship at the West Virginia State College studying Criminology and Communication.
Reverend Holbrook received Christ as Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age. However, after the death of his father, he re-affirmed his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, joining the Mount Paran Baptist Church on December 17, 1995. He was re-baptized and received the Right Hand of Fellowship. As time progressed, he accepted his call into the Gospel Ministry. Upon making full proof of his ministry, Rev. Holbrook preached his initial sermon July 9, 2004, and was licensed to preach the gospel under the leadership of Reverend, Dr. Willie T. Lawson and the Mount Paran Baptist Church family.
On April 11, 2009, Rev. Holbrook was ordained into the gospel ministry, thus leading the way for his election as Pastor of the Delaware Avenue Baptist Church on September 19, 2009. He was installed on November 21, 2009, and currently serves faithfully. In preparation for the gospel ministry, Reverend Holbrook studied at The National Bible College of Ft. Washington, Maryland, a graduate of the Minister's Division of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education USA, Inc., a graduate of the Breakthrough Bible College of Temple Hills, Maryland, and a graduate and current student of the Washington Baptist Theological Seminary of Washington, D.C.
Reverend Holbrook is the proud father of three daughters - Brenda, Jasmine, and Raven Holbrook, and a proud grandfather of two grandsons - Josiah and Jace Holbrook. Reverend Holbrook stands on his favorite passage of scripture which is one of the many passages that speaks to the power of God - Romans 1:14-17 “I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise. 15 So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”
